First things first: Reading Retreats in Rural Italy was created in 1996 as a place where people come to read and relax. Guests do not come here by mistake; it is their destination. It is in a remote location, not conveniently located near any city or typical tourist destination, nor is it a B&B, so if you're looking for a place just to spend one night and not sit down for meals and to enjoy the company of others, scroll down to the bottom of the page for a list of places we recommend in the area.
Stay With Us
La Macchina Fissa is open year round. It is a private home and seat of the cultural association Reading Retreats in Rural Italy, a holiday home to its members who come from all over the world to relax and unwind in a beautiful, rural setting. All meals are prepared and eaten together.
Members are welcome to take part in the every-day operation of the house, grab something to drink from the fridge, help cook or set and clear the table, join Clark in gardening projects. La Macchina Fissa is an excellent place to meet people from all over. It is not a hotel.
The house has four bathrooms that are shared by all the guests. If you come when there are only a few guests, you might end up with a private bathroom, but we cannot guarrantee it!
Suggested Donation
A suggested donation of €80 per person per night helps support the association and includes accommodation, snacks, and three meals a day. We do not have strict arrival or departure hours, so if your schedule allows you to arrive in time for lunch on your arrival day or stay for lunch on your departure day, feel free to stay as long as you can.
Please note: stays are reserved for only members of the association. You can apply for membership in the Enrollment section, and the 15€ fee for your annual membership is in addition to suggested donations.
