The Library
An extraordinary library, from leather-bound antique volumes and sheet music to gardening journals and pink paperbacks. Over half of the books were published before 1970 and do not have an ISBN number, but if they have one, they are on our list, coming soon.
The library contains approximately eight thousand books and periodicals, collected over the past thirty years. Over 90% were gifts from publishing houses, friends, and guests. They're not confined to a single room, but spread around the entire house, with each room dedicated to a different genre or language.
The gardening section that once fit in just one room has now spread to three whilst the French collection comfortably fits in one cabinet and the Spanish books on one shelf.
Reflecting the international nature of the community and Clark's varied interests, the collection includes mostly works in English and Italian, but also has hundreds of books in German, and many in Greek and Latin. The shelves of books about japanese history, design, gardens, bonsai, and ikebana is well stocked, but the sports shelf is... well, there are five books.
Coming Soon
At the moment, we are slightly overwhelmed with our move from the Province of Mantua to the Province of Piacenza, but our project for December 2026 is to publish a list of all of the books with ISBN numbers and by 2027 a complete list of all of the books - old and new - in the library.
